Grown Ups (2010)

Grown Ups Poster
Poster design by Arsonal (with thanks to IMP Awards)

I can’t say i’m a fan of Adam Sandler, but thought i’d give this movie a chance since it’s a comedy and a buddy movie, thinking it can’t really be that bad as most buddy movies are quite predictable.

After viewing Accepted in 2006 I knew that director Steve Pink was a gifted one but I knew he was capable of a lot more, this is definitely what I have been waiting for. Nope, you don’t need a DeLorean to time travel in this film, all you need to do is get drunk with your best friends and chill in a hot tub for the night, and boom you go back in time.

Date Night (2010)

I attended this film with high expectations; Steve Carell who has recently made “The Office” in America a rather big success is also outstanding in the films “40 Year Old Virgin” and “Anchorman”. Joining him is Tina Fey, for those of you who do not know her, she is the creator of the well established American TV comedy “30 Rock” and as well as this she also stars in the programme, so seeing both of these actors collaborating in one film can really not be anything less than superb.

If this movie has introduced me to one thing, then it is the fact that paradise does actually exist. I have to say the locations for this film are absolutely stunning. It was a picture postcard moment, and when you see it the first time you will know what exactly I mean. I had really better get saving up if I want to ever grace that resort for real, as it does not come cheap.

Zombieland (2009)

Zombieland

Well, who would have thought there were rules to survive a zombie plague on Earth? Yes, you’ve guessed it, rules do exist. This movie is seen through the eyes of its main character Colombus (Jesse Eisenberg), who is the geeky hero of this movie and his self survival guide to not getting eaten by the living dead. Zombieland is humorous in the “Shaun of the Dead” mould, but where it differs is that the zombies are a lot more vicious and they run, yes, they run. This is where Rule No.1 comes in. I’ll leave it to you to watch it and find out how relevant the rules are, both in the commonsensical and comical ways.
