Love is the beauty of life, love is pure, love is happiness, love is relationships, and love is life!  I believe the beauty and purity of love cannot be expressed in words, however you know when you are in love when KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI, you feel DIL TO PAGAL HAI, you wish DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAYENGE, you admit MAINE PYAR KIYA and you believe your love is your BAGHBAN!  Wow! That sounds great but if you want to see great romantic movies then you must watch any or all of my top 5 romantic movies:

DDLJ released in 1995 but it is still spoken about every day, it may be over a decade old release however when I struggle to decide which film to watch then DDLJ is my first choice. In February 2010, DDLJ completed 750 weeks of continuous showings in a Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai; it is India’s longest running movie.

The golden pairing of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol was appreciated hugely as their great chemistry and beautiful portrayal of love made the audience cry when they wept, laugh when they joked and smile when they loved. Undoubtedly, they gave one of the best performances of their lives.

I believe DDLJ touches chords with all Asians across the world to go back to their homeland to smell the aroma of their motherland. It drives lovers to be determined to achieve their love even if it means to travel across the world, and it relates to everyone as the film portrays a friendly mum, strict and traditional dad, supportive sister, handsome lover and good friends.

The film emphasises the fact that love never dies and age is only a number so no matter how old you get, your feelings and love will never become old. So, there is no shame or oddness in showing your love to your wife or husband even at the age of 60!

I know many people live in the illusion that when children arrive then couples do not have the time to express their love and share the same space which they did when they first met. However, Baghban acts against this since it shows the immense love and bonding that grows between the couple even when they are grandparents.

This is a beautiful saga of love which strongly connects with the audience. It is heart breaking to see how the sweet innocent couple were separated due to their different class standards. However, the true love and pure intentions of the young lovers were so strong that it melted the stone hearts of their families and they were united. I know this storyline may have been seen in several films but the portrayal of the immense love cannot be found in any other film than MAINE PYAR KIYA.

I must say that the music was the backbone of this film since when I recall MAINE PYAR KIYA then I start to sing the song Dil Deewana Bin Sajna Ke Maane Na, Kabootar Ja Ja and Aaya Mausam Dosti Ka.

The film is a young, refreshing and powerful love story.  The cinema saw the golden pairing of Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan again and their chemistry struck chords with the audience.

The friendship between Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan was beautifully directed by debutant director Karan Johar.  Love is attraction, respect, appreciation and understanding. Rahul is attracted towards Tina’s good looks and they fall in love and get married. However, Tina passes away and leaves a daughter behind with Rahul and Rahul knows his daughter needs a Mother and he only sees his best friend, Anjali as his wife and mother to his daughter. Since, he knows Anjali understands him more than anyone else, respects and appreciates his situation and past. The chemistry between Rahul and Anjali is immensely powerful that I feel KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI in my heart when I see the onscreen couple feel the love.

Directed by Yash Chopra who I believe is one of the best directors of Indian cinema bringing original films to the industry and creating a new saga each time.

The film is a romantic musical film which is full of immense emotions, feelings, melodious and vibrant music.  Legendary Lata Mangeskhar dominants the album of this movie hence there is no question why the music struck chords with the audience.

I love the way DIL TO PAGAL HAI shows how music enhances romance, music reflects love, and music explains love and the intensity of love can be expressed by music.

As much as I like these films, I think films like Mann and Vivah are much better, as it shows the true power of Love, and that it conquers all.. Makes you really realise if you can accept your partner should something really bad happen like in Mann or Vivah…
