Aamir khan has once again outdone himself with his latest movie, 3 Idiots. If this movie does not get all your emotions ticking, then I don’t know what will. I found myself laughing, smiling, crying, and also had that feel good factor inside me; this is all thanks to 3 Idiots.
Farhan Qureshi (Madhavan) and Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) get news of the whereabouts of there college friend Rancho (Aamir Khan), who just disappeared after they graduated from college 5 years ago. On their journey, they recollect old memories of their time at the Imperial College of Engineering. Farhan and Raju come from modest backgrounds, while Rancho comes from a very wealthy family.
This is a movie about Friendship, and about students conforming to the ways of the college, and those of the dictating college head, Professor Viru Sahastabudhhe (Boman Irani) or known by the students as Virus. It is a slight attack on the Education system, which drills into its students one thing only and that’s top grades which in turn increases the pressures the students face, almost indicating that they are nothing but machines themselves, that must grind out top marks.
On the other hand, we have Rancho, whose thirst for knowledge makes him question everything the college is teaching the students, which in turn gets makes him the hate figure for Professor Viru S. Rancho tries to see the bigger picture in everything as he tries to instil this mentality into his 2 friends, Farhan and Raju. He wants them to follow their dreams and aspirations and not those of others i.e. their families. He teaches them to live life as it was meant to be lived, with a bit of fun.
Rancho falls in love with Pia (Kareena Kapoor) who is also the daughter of Professor Viru, but Pia is to be married to the wrong guy, someone who cares for nothing but money, that is until Rancho comes into her life and opens her eyes, as she realises she is making a mistake in marrying this guy.
With some twists here and there, we finally see Rancho earn the respect of his Head, Professor Viru S, and we also find out why he actually just disappeared after his graduation, leaving his friends and the love of his life behind him.
If there was ever a Bollywood Hall of Fame, then Aamir Khan would well and truly be near the top. This movie really is a treat, and once again highlights Aamir Khan’s tremendous acting ability. If there’s any doubt, then just check the box office records as in only a matter of weeks, it has already broken all box office records. 3 Idiots should clean up at most of the awards ceremonies.
