Although the title above maybe confusing, the story in this film is based on the simple Mayan philosophy that the world is coming to an end in the year 2012. The film starts in India where an Indian scientist is carrying out research on the activity of the earth’s core and he has spotted some dramatic changes “The earth’s core is destabilising” in patterns during his research which then leads an American ecologist to go and have a look at. It then goes on to concentrate on a family’s dramatic escape of the tragedy unfolding in front of their eyes. The film does incorporate religious beliefs from the bible in using Noah’s philosophy in trying to save the world, but do they succeed?
Well I have set the scene on the film, now I don’t want to spoil it for you by revealing the whole story line so go watch it in the cinema! The film contains lots of special effects enhancing the experience and further adding to the play on people’s fears that the world is coming to an end. I believe it is in the same genre of film as “The Day After Tomorrow” and “Whose Seen the World Tomorrow” as it explores into the future somewhat predicting it.
I have heard mixed reviews on the film with regards to character building and the depth of the story but I for one enjoyed it and would rate it better than “The Day After Tomorrow”. However that is just my opinion, I did watch the film a few years ago with a lady friend where watching the film was the last thing on both our minds.
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the film, with another lady as company to find out who you’ll have to read next week’s article. I would personally recommend that you should go and watch it in the cinema as the experience is enhanced by the sound and graphics. If I was to rate it out of 10, I would give it 7/10. Please if you do decide to go and watch it send me your comments on what you thought of it.
Until next time, this is Bhav signing out…
