Apple unveiled the iPhone 4 to the world at the WWDC conference; you just have to take your hat off to them. Every one of their products has the world waiting in anticipation and is almost guaranteed to sell into the millions. There have been a lot of rumours regarding the potential feature of the iPhone 4, check out my previous post for some of the features talked about –http://www.taramagazine.com/technology/the-iphone-4g-is-this-it/
It is no longer about the rumours; this is the real features as presented by Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
Display – A new feature with a new name, ‘Retina display’. This increases the pixels per square inch by four times to 326 pixels. What this does to the display, is make it extremely sharp and fine. Steve compared this to the screen on iPhone 3GS and the difference was astounding.
Body – The iPhone 4 is 24% thinner than the 3GS. What I found with the 3GS is the sides of the phone would crack at the smallest fall, maybe it is because of the glass like material the 3GS is made from. The 4G is slightly different, the front and back are still glass but the sides are now steel to protect the sides.
Processor – The iPhone 4 has the same processor as the iPad, The Apple A4 processor makes the phone faster and takes web browsing to the extreme.
Battery Life – The biggest flaw with the 3GS is the battery life. Thanks to the increased battery size and the dexterity of the A4 processor, the iPhone 4 is capable of 7 hours of 3G talk, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hours of video, 40 hours of music, and 300 hours standby time.
The Micro Sim – Just like the iPad, the iPhone will have a Micro Sim slot so potentially you can use you iPhone sim on your iPad, I bloody well hope so with the amount money these products cost.
The Camera – This is one of the biggest changes to the phone. The camera on the iPhone 3GS is poor so the increase to 5 Megapixel, LED Flash and 5x Digital Zoom is a welcome change.
The Antenna – The stainless steel band around the side of the iPhone 4 -with a couple of precise indents – is designed to boost the antenna signal. This will help with Wi-Fi, GSM, GPS, UMTS and Bluetooth reception
Video Calling – for the all you business people out there, you should be grateful for this feature you would think, personally I do not see the need for it. Front facing camera is ok but you can only use the video calling iPhone 4 to iPhone 4, not so good on Apple’s part. You will have to wait till 2011 for the feature to work.
iPhone 4 is going to be available from 26 June in 5 countries including UK so get your name down with your network provider early to avoid disappointment.
