Grand Durbar, Leicester – Restaurant Review

Grand Durbar has always been an excellent place to go and eat at. Located off the main part of Belgrave Road on Melton Road, it has an excellent reputation for satisfying diners. Interestingly enough the word “Durbar” means an entertainment chamber with the first one taking place in 1877 to recognise Queen Victoria as the empress of India. The restaurant has been established since 1988 which for me was a fine year as it was the birth year of my brother.

Friendly staff, a pleasant dining environment and an easy to get to location provides the back drop for this establishment. Occasions such as birthday’s, engagements and general celebrations can be pleasantly experienced as well as the normal Friday night of course.

Now to the main bit the food! Dishes like their mixed meat platter, Mixed Veg Platter and Tandoori fish are quite popular! (My favourite is the fish). For the main course Chicken Tikka Masala (Paneer for vegetarians) is quite famous mostly in my opinion for the perfect sauce. Jaal Maach for the seafood lovers is a great choice or a special Veg Tawa for the vegetarians out there.

For dessert lovers Mango Kulfi or the choice of Ice creams are quite tasty along with Irish coffee and other drink varieties.

Always been one of my favourite places to eat and I highly recommend it for a fantastic evening. I give it an 8 out of 10!
