Chicken & Chorizo Skewers
One of the many tasty starters – Chicken & Chorizo Skewers

I have to say I’m not much of a dessert person, but the one piece of dessert I do like is profiteroles. So I jumped at the chance to join my friends to celebrate his birthday when he suggested The Observatory at the Meridian Business Park in Leicester.

The decision to dine at The Observatory was all down to me as my friends know that I adore their profiteroles. With a restaurant to one side and the pub to the other side, The Observatory makes an ideal place to get away for a celebration.

Having taken up our table, we ordered the drinks, and the service was prompt.

As we perused the menu, I opted for the Potato Skins with a Cheese and Bacon topping. My friends opted for the Garlic & Herb Breaded Mushrooms, Prawn Cocktail, Soup of the Day and Chicken and Chorizo Skewers. I can safely say that there were no disappointments to be had from any of us. I particularly enjoyed my Potato Skins as the potato itself was light and fluffy.

The next 15 minutes or so were spent with us discussing or laughing at everyone’s choice of favourite movies and TV shows.

 The tasty Smoked Paprika Chicken

Eventually, we were brought our mains. I opted for the Smoked Paprika Chicken, which comes with plain or spicy chips, side salad and coleslaw. I have to admit I love my food with a bit of zing to it, so opted to have the spicy chips. The best way to gauge an opinion on whether this dish is worthy is to ask yourself “would you eat it again?” and I can honestly say I would definitely go for the Paprika Chicken again.

My friends opted for the 8oz Sirloin Steak, another Smoked Paprika Chicken, Grilled Salmon Fillet and The Ultimate Haddock and Chips. Each dish comes with an assortment of sides and I can say that there were no complaints from the food as far as my friends were concerned.

Now onto the real reason why I wanted to eat at The Observatory: their delicious desserts.  There was only 1 dessert I was going to have and that was their Profiteroles. Well not much more I can say than they’re to die for, and will always have them as long as they’re on the menu.

Other desserts which were devoured on our table include the Belgian Waffle, Banoffee Pie, another plate of Profiteroles (no I didn’t go for round 2) and a Warm Chocolate Fudge Brownie.

One of my favourites – Profiteroles.

As a group of friends we can conclude that eating out at The Observatory has been a consistent affair, with the restaurant being nice and cosy whether you’re there with friends or out with your partner. With the bar on the other side it makes for a nice night out, and the prices to eat here are reasonable. The added bonus being there is ample parking space which you don’t get when eating out in the city centre.
