World Cup Review – First Group Matches

Frustrating times for the Spain players (Image courtesy of Zimbio)

I have to say I have been very disappointed with the first round of matches in the world cup. Too many teams have had the attitude that they cannot afford to lose the first match which has resulted in a very defensive attitude and a lack of goals. Also, all the big teams have not performed to their high standards which have resulted in the shock of the World Cup so far of Spain losing their first match.

I would say the only team that played really well was Germany and they were the only team to score more then two goals in there first game. Before the tournament started I would not have really given Germany the chance of winning the tournament but the way they played showed that as soon as a tournament comes around no matter how they are playing they have the confidence and belief to go far.

Of the other major teams, Brazil were also a disappointment and I think there first goal was a fluke, what do you think? Argentina looked good going forward but there defence looks a bit dodgy and when it comes to the knock out stages and they play a better quality of team you wonder if they would make it to the next round.

As for England the less said the better. After scoring so early you wonder what happened. Green is an idiot and no one will forget his mistake. Everyone knew when Heskey had his one on one he was going to miss so why play a striker who is not going to score. We should play Rooney up front Gerrard behind him and Joe Cole on the left. Holland, Italy and France all did not play to their best either and if they want to go far must improve.

At least the second round of games seems to be better as teams know they must try and win these if they drew or lost the first game. Hopefully there will be more goals and the top teams and players will start performing to their full potential.

What have you made of the World Cup so far?
