Let me start by saying that it is one long flight to get to Singapore; however I travelled with Singapore Airlines, who I would definitely fly with again and are classed as one of the best airlines in the world. The service was first class and all the staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. The Airport is one of best I have been to in the world, very clean and modern. If your flight is only stopping over in Singapore, you can find a very convenient hotel at the actual airport so you do not have to travel anywhere.
The first thing that hits you when you leave the airport is the humidity and the heat which feels awesome if you like it really hot. You really appreciate air-conditioning once you get there. As Singapore is not really that big you can see most of the sights in about five days, but if you like your shopping you can spend much more time there just going to all the different kinds of shops. There are lots of different kinds of shops, lots of jewellery shops, electrical, tailors etc.
Sentosa Island is definitely worth a day trip as it has nice beach and you can check out the dolphin show. It also has a small water park which is ok but have been to better in different countries. The beach is nice and you can find a nice beach bar where you can just unwind and chill for the day. Or, if you do fancy some activity there are plenty of people playing beach volleyball and other activities on the beach. The only thing that spoils the view from the beach is that in the distance you can see some of container ships that are queuing up to go to one of busiest ports in the world.
Singapore also has a good night life and a good place to have a few drinks at night is one of the two quay side areas, but, let me warn you the drinks can be expensive. The night life is good and the people are really friendly there are lots of nice bars to chill out at all night and enjoy the night. The good thing is the weather is still quite hot at night and its nice to chill outside and have a few drinks.
When it comes to accommodation you find all sorts of different ratings and from modern to classic old hotels with lots of characters.
If you have been, let us know what you think or where else you would recommend in Asia or the far-east.
