Florida – The Sunshine State

Two states really stand out for me in USA, California and Florida. As an adult, I have not had the pleasure of visiting California, as the last time I visited was when I was 15, so at that age there’s not a lot you can do. However, my last holiday was Florida, and let me tell you, 2 weeks just isn’t long enough in Florida.

At the heart of Florida lies Orlando, this is where we stayed. We had our own villa, with a pool, which sleeps 8, although there were only 4 of us. We had the luxury of a convertible car, but made little use of the top down as was too hot, the a/c was a better option. At £420 for the Flight, Car and Villa, this was a bargain, especially considering the currency rate at the time was nearly $2 to the £1.

As everyone probably already knows, Orlando is best known for its vast array of theme parks that cater for the young and old. The Disney Resort is worth visiting if you have children with you, it will be a dream come true for them. Some of the more popular theme parks are: Magic Kingdom in the Disney Resort, SeaWorld, Universal Studios, Universals Islands of Adventure and Wet n Wild.

I highly recommend you visit Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, which is right next door to Universal Studios. My favourite being the 3D Spiderman ride, you’ll be left amazed after this ride. I often when a ride of this magnitude will come to the UK, as it seems 3D rides are the way forward now. On a hot sunny day, nothing will be cooler than a visit to Wet ‘n’ Wild. Take a dip in the pool, or float around in the lazy pool, or try out the various slides on offer.

Originally we had planned to see so many places, but we hadn’t taken into consideration one major aspect about the USA, cheap shopping. Many of our days were spent on shopping, as we visited one outlet centre to another, picking up bargains along the way. Seriously, if you could pick up 3 pairs of trainers for £20 (all big brands like Nike etc) who wouldn’t in their right mind end up on a shopping spree.

An outlet shop is where brands like Nike, Adidas etc have their own stores, and sell directly to the customers, rather than sell their products through alternative sports shops. This way they are able to sell their products at much lower prices. You will find many outlet centres with groups of branded shops, all offering major discounts.

The Disney Resort and the Universal CityWalk resort will provide a selection of places to eat, drink and dance the night away. However, if you want to take in the local nightlife, why not go visit downtown Orlando, but be prepared for a long and expensive taxi ride home.

Personally speaking, Florida has it all: Sunshine, Theme Parks, Water Parks, Bars, Clubs, Restaurant, A Shopping Haven and the best of all it caters for young and old.
