The draw for the World cup 2010 has been made on Friday 4th December in Cape Town, South Africa. The World cup will kick off on 11th June 2010 in the host country of South Africa. Since the draw has been made everyone is talking about who will win their group and who will be eventual Champions at the end. Below is what I think will happen in group stages and who will go on to be crowned World Champions.

Group A

South Africa

The group of host nation South Africa along with runners up from 2006 France, first World cup winners Uruguay and Mexico who have reached their 13 World cup finals.  South Africa will have a bit between their teeth as they will have the crowd behind them being the host nation, so I think they along with France should get through to knockout stages.

Group B

Korea Republic

Argentina should win this group comfortably and Greece will join them through to next stage, as they have experience of winning a major tournament (winners of Euro 2004)

Group C

England does have an easy group, but they need to show that with topping the group and getting there without any alarm bells. If England can keep their stars fit, they can go a long way in the tournament.  USA should finish second and book their passage to knockout stages.

Group D

The group should be won by Germany, who have appeared in record World cup finals (7 times, record held jointly with Brazil) and Ghana should finish runners up.

Group E

Netherlands reached the finals with a 100% record in qualifying rounds and looking to win their first World cup. Dutch should top the table but it will be a fight to finish second and go through and I think that place will be taken by Cameroon.

Group F

New Zealand

The group of World champions Italy should see them top the group without any hesitation and Paraguay should finish runners-up, as they have more experience than the other two teams, having been to this stage in their 3 previous campaigns.

Group G

Korea DPR
Cote d’Ivoire

The group dubbed as the ‘group of death’, the experience of Brazil should see them through, being the only team to reach all 19 World cup final group stages.  Portugal will have to fight on there hands to finish second but would get there having more experience players to handle the pressure.

Group H

Final group contains European Champions and many people’s favourite Spain. Having won the European Championship, they will be geared up for this and should get through this in first gear. And to join them would be Chile, who finished runners-up to Brazil in qualification group.

Overall, England has a team and the draw in their favour, which should see them reaching semi-finals at least. The eventual winners should be Spain, to add to their Euro cup win (2008).
