With two crucial points dropped against USA and now England will face Algeria next in group C match on Friday 18th June. There is plenty of thinking to do for the England manager (Fabio Capello) throughout the team, from the keeper situation to striker pairing. So who should be starting the next game for England? The game which could decide how long England stays in South Africa to fulfil their dream of a second World Cup glory.
Below is the team that I think should start the game and are more than capable of beating any team on a given day.
Goalkeeper: David James
Defenders: Glen Johnson, John Terry, Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole
Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, Gareth Barry
Strikers: Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney
Firstly, I would go with David James in goal, he is an experienced campaigner and the game does not require Capello to throw in the inexperience of Joe Hart, which could lead to another Robert Green situation. The back four picks its self; I would stick with the four that finished the USA game.
There are changes in the midfield; I would pick Michael Carrick to sit in front of the defence, the role which he has fulfilled for his club Manchester United, this should also see Frank Lampard go forward and help in attack. On the wings I think Aaron Lennon should be given another chance and Gareth Barry should come up on the left.
The England Captain should play just behind the main striker Wayne Rooney. This formation and the players should be used by the England manager for the upcoming games.
What do you think of the team and the formation?
