The kick-off for the World Cup is just over 2 weeks away, all the managers have a crucial time coming up, and 1st June is when they have to announce their final 23 man squad for South Africa. In the previous weeks I have picked the goal keepers, the defenders, midfielders and all that left is strikers. Who would you pick to shoot England to world cup glory?
I have already selected 19 players so there is only place for 4 more, below are the 5 strikers picked by England manager Fabio Capello for his provisional 30 man squad.
|Emile Heskey||Aston Villa||57||7|
|Jermain Defoe||Tottenham Hotspur||39||12|
|Peter Crouch||Tottenham Hotspur||37||20|
|Wayne Rooney||Manchester United||58||25|
The four I would take are Wayne Rooney who will spearhead the England attack, along with Peter Crouch who has a knack of getting international goals; his record is pretty good with 20 goals from his 37 caps. Jermain Defoe should also be picked; he has had a brilliant season with Tottenham Hotspurs guiding them to Champions’ League spot and the final spot should go to Darren Bent if he is fully fit. Emile Heskey will miss out; I think he should retire from international football and concentrate on prolonging club career.
So here is the team I think should go to South Africa and bring the trophy back home.
David James, Paul Robinson and Joe Hart
Glen Johnson, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Wes Brown, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards and Leighton Baines
Aaron Lennon, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Adam Johnson, James Milner, Michael Carrick and Theo Walcott
Wayne Rooney, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent
I will compare my final squad against the final 23 announced by Fabio Capello on 1st June. What do you think of my final squad? Is there anyone that you would like to be replaced? So let’s wait and see what surprises the England manager has up his sleeve.
