England’s Chance Gone?

Now that Ferdinand is out of the World Cup, England’s chances of winning have reduced further. He was definitely one of England’s best players and was the captain of the team so he will definitely be missed. However, his injury should not come as that much of a shock as for all of this past season he seems to have had one injury or another. The only good thing is that it has happened earlier so England have had enough time to call up a replacement for the squad.

It will be interesting to see who starts in his place; I think it should be Carragher and not King, as if they start with King I do not think he will be able to last the tournament with his knee problems so Carragher should get the nod as he is the better defender, but King is the better ball player and at bringing the ball out. Ferdinand’s replacement Dawson also has a chance as he was unlucky not to be named in the squad in the first place and has played consistently well all season.

To be honest I do not think England have got that much of chance of winning the whole thing, the main thing that they have got going for them is the favourable draw which should see them reach the Semi-Finals and anything less would be disappointing. If they do reach the Semi-Finals, with a bit of luck they could win it as it is only two more games and anything could happen. As long as a game is not decided on penalties the Semis should be the minimum requirement for this team.

With the loss of Ferdinand it means England have even less truly world class players. I would say they only five world class players  A Cole, Terry, Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney and then there is J Cole, who could also be classed as the same but I think he just misses out, due to his lack of playing time and consistency levels.

So with the loss of Ferdinand, England’s chances have reduced further but they should still get to the Semi-Finals.

What do you make of England’s chances?
