Cancun, Mexico (2008)

Getting there may be a long flight but worth it, as once you get there the weather is nice and hot and the beaches are nice clean and sandy. There are plenty of nice hotels to choose from to stay at and you can get hotels for adults only which is always good as during the day when you may be recovering from a hangover you do not have to put up with any noisy little kids. Most resorts are all inclusive and actually are all inclusive without restrictions on times for food and drink. The resort I stayed at always had at least one restaurant open at all times and several during dinner and lunch times.  There were various bars which had drinks available at different times and you could even get drinks at the bar after returning from a night of clubbing. For breakfast, you had a choice of two pool bars.

As most resorts are all inclusive, most water sports are included in there packages, however you may have to pay extra for certain activities like jet skiing but snorkeling and windsurfing and such are normally free, with lessons available for those who do not know how to do such things.

I went during the busiest period for clubbing, Spring Break, and clubs were packed.  Place to stay during Spring Break is the Grand Oasis as they have parties during the day. Even if you’re not staying there you can go for the parties during day for which you pay and get a wrist band which entitles you to free food and drink for the duration of party. They have a couple of nice pools, different bars and access to the beach which is stunning. There are plenty of different drinks and cocktails to try. I would recommend the superman cocktail even though I have no idea what is actually in it.   You can get Pina Coladas in Coconuts which you can not go wrong with.

Cancun provides a different vibe to Europe where you get more of the V.I.P service if you have got the money and more table service at clubs/bars. Cancun also has a tipping culture and even though most clubs offer free drinks all night long, you may have to queue up for a while and leave a tip once you are served.

There are plenty of different clubs and bars to choose from. I would say you have to go the Corona Bar for a corona or two or more depending on your mood. Some of the clubs are huge and you can even find a water slide in one of the clubs. I would say that some of the clubs can get a little too packed and you can struggle to find any space to dance in some of them.

Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience in Cancun, Mexico.

Let us know what you though of cancun if you have been or any other spring break destination.
