As the holidays approach, you might be running down the list of things you need to do. It can make a person anxious, but it doesn’t have to. Here is a quick look at some of the different things that you can do to reduce the stress this holiday season.
1. Throw a Decorating Party
Cooking isn’t the only thing that can stress you out. If you want your home to look just right for the holidays, you can end up spending a lot of time and money on decor. Why not have a decorating party, instead? Invite your family over to put up your favorite decorations, and you can even start a tradition of making new ones together.
2. Order Out
We’re not talking about pizza here; although, some families do that. Instead of making it all at home, considering a Houston catering company to relieve a little stress. You can always make it feel homemade by adding your signature baked mac and cheese or your garlic green beans, but you’ll be surprised how much you miss when you spend the entire day slaving over the stove.
3. Think Paper and Plastic
While you may enjoy using your fine china, you will end up spending a great deal of time and effort cleaning up all your dishes once the party is over. It saves a lot of time and hassle if you just invest in paper plates and disposable silverware. All you have to do at the end of the day is take out the trash and wash a few serving bowls, rather than washing all the dishes.
4. Plan for Delays
If you expect everything to happen exactly on time, you might be sorely disappointed. However, if you realize that things go awry, turkeys burn, and relatives get lost along the way, you’ll be much more relaxed. Recognize that you’ll probably need more time to do things than you need. Give yourself the extra time, and if you don’t need it, spend it with family!
5. Forget About Perfect
Again, you can’t have everything the way you want. As long as it’s made with love, your family will be happy. Plus, a pie doesn’t have to look magazine-ready to be tasty.
6. Ask for Help
Too many supers moms — and dads! — try to do it all themselves. Cooking, cleaning and keeping everyone’s glass full is a big job, especially if your entire family turns up. Instead, ask your loved ones to bring a dish. Assign duties to children, like setting the table. More helping hands means more time you get to spend with your loved ones.
