Omar Borkan Al Gala, the model identified as one of three men deported from Saudi Arabia for being too handsome, will be making his first public appearance in the UK in September.
Omar’s story captured headlines across the world and has turned the model/photographer/actor into a global online superstar – with more than 1.3 MILLION fans on Facebook.
The 23-year-old was reportedly ejected from a culture festival in Saudi Arabia earlier this year after religious police deemed him ‘too handsome’. The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vices had the men deported to Abu Dhabi in case women should ‘fall for them’. The story appeared in hundreds of newspapers, TV channels, radio stations and on-line blogs and was estimated to have reached a billion people globally.
Now living in Vancouver BC, Omar has become a worldwide sensation, with many of his daily Facebook posts achieving 100,000 ‘Likes’ and thousands of comments from his army of swooning female followers. Interestingly, photos of Omar with his trademark Arabian headdress attract far more ‘Likes’ than those in ‘normal’ western attire.
As a one-man publicity machine, Omar has been putting his astonishing popularity to good use with celebrity endorsements, PAs, magazine photo-shoots and fashion shows. He has just returned from Tokyo where he walked the ramp in front of 20,000 screaming fans. The visit is part of his World Wide Tour, which includes Mexico, Dubai and Vietnam.
Omar will be meeting fans across the UK for six days from 24-29 September 2013, culminating in his first ever appearance on a British runway. The Couture Catwalk Show takes place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London – Sunday 29th September.
