With it barely being into 2010, lady luck is certainly shining on a certain Mr Khan, no I’m not talking about Shah Rukh Khan, but the new King Khan, Aamir Khan. It’s always been said that Amitabh Bachan remains the last superstar of Bollywood, and whether there was anyone else left worthy of such stature. I would have thought Shah Rukh Khan comes close indeed, but in my eyes, no one is more worthy than the man himself, Aamir Khan.

The powerhouse of Aamir Khan is moving from strength to strength, and this only underlies why I believe he is the next best thing after Amitabh Bachan. However, this is dependant on whether he can sustain his acting career for at least another decade, before he can be mentioned in the same breath as the stars of the past. Watching his movies, past and present, certainly takes you through the motions, much like Amitabh Bachan’s movies used to when they used to be emotionally charged. Shah Rukh Khan is a very good actor as well, but I feel he lacks consistency to be able to match Aamir Khan.

2010 will once again prove to be a fruitful year for Aamir Khan. His movies consistently go on to be high earners at the Box Office. 2007 saw Aamir Khan making his directorial debut in “Taare Zameen Par”, a movie which was very well received as it went on to pick up various awards. Ghajini in 2008 being the highest earning Bollywood movie for 2008, while 2009 saw the release of 3 Idiots, which went onto become the highest grossing movie at the Box Office in the history of Bollywood.

Only recently, Aamir Khan was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award. The Padma Bhushan Award is a civilian award honoured by the Prime Minister of India, which is ranked 3rd highest. Bharat Ratna ranks 1st, then Padma Vibhushan, followed by Padma Bhushan and finally Padma Shri Awards. He has already been awarded the Padma Shri Award in 2003. These awards represent his immense contribution to Indian cinema.

With such credentials under his belt, is it any wonder that he has immerged as the top Khan. I for one, have never doubted his quality, and hope he remains in the industry for many many more years to come.
