Celebrities seem to have it all. They are rich, famous, and beautiful and admired by a lot of different people. However, not all of them have had perfect lives. Some of them have even suffered terrible alcohol and drug addictions. While several celebrities have died from their addictions, many of them have beaten their addictions.
Here are five celebrities who have triumphed over drug and alcohol addictions.
Drew Barrymore started drinking alcohol and doing drugs at a very young age. By the time she turned 13, she was already addicted to cocaine. Barrymore went to rehab twice by the time she was 14 and even tried killing herself. Luckily, she overcame her addictions and is now one of the most respected actresses out there. She has acted in many great films including Riding in Cars with Boys, Lucky You and Going the Distance.
Robin Williams might be one of the funniest actors in Hollywood, but that does not mean he was always happy. When he started out as a comedian, he was addicted to cocaine. However, Williams decided to clean up his act after fellow comedian, John Belushi, died of a drug overdose. He went to rehab and has been a successful actor ever since.
Angelina Jolie used to be a very wild woman and tried almost every drug out there including cocaine, heroin and ecstasy. She has not used drugs in many years and focuses on her movie career and humanitarian duties.
Robert Downey Jr.
Robert Downey Jr. started abusing drugs when he was just 22 years old and was arrested many times between 1996 and 2001. In 2002, he decided to get his life back on track and go to rehab. Since being released from rehab, the actor’s life has greatly improved. He is clean and has acted in numerous films including Sherlock Holmes, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk and the Soloist.
Oprah Winfrey has had one of the most successful talk shows of all time and is an inspiration to many people. However, things have not always been so perfect for her. Winfrey admitted that she did cocaine when she was in her 20s during an episode of her show.
As you can see, even the most famous celebrities are not immune to drug and alcohol addictions. They feel pain like everyone else and sometimes turn to alcohol or drugs to deal with it.
